well, this could possibly be one of the most heartbreaking game ive watched. we witnessed a first quarter jump out of the gate for the nets. we saw a 10 point lead turn into a 10 point deficit in the 2nd. the third was just such a rollercoaster ride, with a perfect ending to the quarter as boki hit an off-balance shot to pull within 2.
the final quarter was just as confusing. as i saw boki hit that jumper, i started jumping with excitement, because the usual team carries that momentum into the next quarter, and usually has a stretch of good basketball. well, the nets are not a usual team. we went almost 3 minutes without scoring a single point, as the heat went on a 6-0 run. kidd answered with a 3, but was silenced by a three from hardaway (more ranting about him later). final 4 minutes, im thinking, hey we can fight our way back into this. it was like a 9 point deficit. sean williams catches fire, hitting free throws and points in the paint. arrite, heres where things just get even crazier.
30 seconds left, down 2, and kidd starts to drive to his left. he draws collins’ man, which leaves the forward wide open. twin catches it, goes straight up, misses the shot, but is hacked by a couple of heat players (who know that if you have to foul somebody, hes the one to foul). so, big moment for jason collins. i start to think in my head, if you make this jason, i will never bash your shooting ever again. and he clanks both of them. just like that. but thankfully, wade misses both free throws (what?! i told you it gets crazier). timeout by LFrank. he draws up an efficient play for RJ, which i remember he used last year against the bulls for VC. everyone is in motion, while RJ posts his man and gets inside position in the paint. it works to perfecti….wait, yes, the layup is missed.
exactly how the night went for the men in white. opportunities were there, but they just weren’t taken advantage of. yes you can say haslem touched the rim (who cares?), you can say RJ got hit on the arm (before the shot, so, who cares?), or you can say mourning’s a big douche (arrite, i kinda agree with that.). but the bottom line is this. the nets shouldn’t have been in that position.
we should of came out of the half more fired up. we shouldnt have let the heat take the lead in the second. LFrank should’ve played some one else besides collins in the final 2 so we make those 2 free throws. this game really represents how our whole season has been so far: sluggish, sloppy, and inefficient.
lets start with the usual horrible-
26 turnovers. do i really have to say why that is important?
we actually had a higher fg% (47% to 41%) than them. odd right? the frickin turnovers just balanced all that out for the heat.
arrite here it is. anfernee frickin hardaway. i mean, really guys? 4-4 behind the arc (stupid jefferson play when he wasnt looking was just downright embarrassing.) , for 16 overall? we did a solid job on oneal, and wade was handled a bit, until the 4th. basically, their secondary players killed us. cook, hardaway, and the hated alonzo all showed up tonight, which contrasts from the entire nets bench of collins, boki, nenad, and the thrown-to-the-wolves eddie gill.
the great-
Sean “Elastic Man” Williams. 22-8-2 blocks. just an excellent game from the rook. playing with intensity and energy, he looked like the only truly motivated net.
on a funny note, “I would pay to watch Collins and ONeal have a free throw contest. I would pay. But I wouldn’t let my kids watch that, their not allowed.”
-Mark Jackson
just a bad day for nets fans everywhere.
